Safety
Heat, hydration, and sun protection
Summer here combines humidity, glare off the water, and zero shade. Managing that is part of the fishing plan.
Plan around the heat
Dawn and dusk are both cooler and generally more productive. Midday summer sessions on an unshaded pier are the least comfortable and least effective option.
Cover, do not just coat
A long-sleeve sun shirt, wide brim, buff, and polarized glasses reduce exposure far more reliably than reapplied sunscreen alone. Glare off the water hits from below as well as above.
Know the warning signs
Headache, nausea, dizziness, and stopping sweating are reasons to get out of the sun immediately and rehydrate. Heat illness escalates fast in high humidity.
