Buy one setup, not five
A 7-foot medium spinning combo will catch nearly everything reachable from a pier, marsh bank, or lake shoreline in this region. Add specialized gear only after you know what you actually fish for.
Pick a pier for trip one
Piers eliminate the two hardest beginner problems: casting distance and reading water. Fish a two-hook bottom rig with small fresh bait, straight down near the pilings, on a moving tide.
